Sea Witch’s Cavern is moving to Etsy over the next few months. The new shop is easy to browse through and I am loving the clear, fresh, look of it.
There is a lot of work to be done transferring all my handmade jewellery and gifts over but it is a pleasure working on it again. It’s been a tough couple of years for various reasons with a couple of spells in hospital for surgeries, the last one in July having a bionic knee fitted. I wish it was bionic; it’s hard work getting my mobility back but worth it.
All the time I did spend working on the shop, over the last couple of years, seemed to be making admin updates for Google shopping stream and not doing what I want to be doing, which is making the jewellery and gifts. It all began to be too complicated and I got thoroughly disheartened with it. I did look into other outlets in addition to my own domain shop but it wasn’t till I checked out a marketing email from Etsy on the 14th October 2015 that I made the decision to move the shop completely.
Since I opened the new shop, earlier this month, I’ve been galvanised into action. One thing that is taking a while is editing photos where I have the original version. The recommended size for Etsy photos are 1000 pixels, my domain shop size is only 500 pixels. So all the originals need resizing to a 1000 pixels, which is great because they look so much better in a bigger size. Where I haven’t got the originals I will be taking new photos. So there is a lot of behind the scenes work to be done. The plan is have all my handmade products transferred to my Sea Witch’s Cavern Etsy Store by February 2016, when I will close my own domain shop down. The domain will then be transferred to this blog so customers who enter the URL into the address bar or from bookmarks will not end up with a not found page.
I have been listing new products as well as doing transfers. These Mookaite Jasper earrings never made it online for sale in the old shop. There will be lots more new items coming soon. I am waiting for my banner to be re-designed and hopefully that will be in place this week. For now I just have a not very inspiring temporary banner in place because the original one wouldn’t fit in the available space.
One of the advantages of the selling through Etsy is that there is a Facebook app so that my Etsy store can be pulled through to Sea Witch’s Cavern Facebook page. The app is now set up and working.
If you haven’t gathered already I am very excited by this new direction I am taking and hope to meet more of you on the journey.
